Don't be stupid. We all know that by coming here you have an ounce of intelligence, and sensibility. If something looks stupid (by which this means 'a bad idea'), it is probably wrong. Unless it's SAPPHIROS. He's perfect.
SavageWolf'sSAPPHIROS' word is final. Anything that SAPPHIROS condones is wrong. You'll probably be banned for disobeying it. Unless there is a consensus vote against SAPPHIROS' decision. Either way, it's a false democracy; SAPPHIROS is still the supreme ruler.
I like the zeroth one already there. The first one should cover almost every rule as a safeguard, and the second one is just in case something goes wrong after that. It's foolproof!!1
Oh... oh my... I would like to see certain things be rules here. Yes.
1. I think that, to avoid problems that FH faced, the administrator and any possible moderators in the future should have to give a reason in order to ban someone. It can be a good reason or a bad reason, but they should have to give reasons.
2. Members shouldn't make multiple accounts. It can lead to taking up too much space, or could be used to promote one person more than others, such as by having a number of accounts all friend your "main" account or something.
3. No linking to pornography (so you keep the Americans and their censorship happy) and no linking to absurd violence or gore (keeping the Europeans happy).
4. No over-the-top swearing. It just makes you look stupid, and someone already said it should be against the rules to be stupid.
5. No flaming. I mean, that should go without saying.
6. Arguments lasting more than 5 posts without introduction of a new fact should be removed as deemed fit by the administrator or moderators. In other words, if you're just saying "nu-uh/yu-huh" for more than 5 posts, mods and the admin have the total right to delete your posts if they want.
7. No sexually harassing other members. This includes insulting someone for their sex, gender or sexual preference. This also includes hitting on someone despite what they may be interested in.
8. Your status on Fig Hunter is not necessarily your status here. If you're an admin or mod there, you can still be a regular member here. Likewise the reverse is true, that an admin or mod here might be a regular on fig hunter. These sites are still different.
9. No threatening other members. It always creates a bad atmosphere when you're telling someone you'll **** up their ****. It's even worse when you tell them you'll ***** their *** with a red hot ******-**** and **** their ****** to the **** upside-down **** without ******** a parking meter.
10. Foul language can be censored however you want, i.e. with #$%@, @$$4073 or ****, as long as it's not readily readable by those who don't want to read it.
11. Use of understandable language is necessary. This may not be punishable, but please don't go around typing in a way that is nearly impossible to understand. It's rather frustrating.
1) No spamming, or hacking, of this site will be tolerated.
2) No multi-accounting.
3) Be courteous and kind.
4) Don't criticize other members or be mean to them just because the member is disliked. It's what makes things toxic.
5) Be careful when making a post. Think it through, then decide what you will do.
6) Do not post inappropriate things or links, like porn.
7) If a ban is illogical, and enough members complain, it may be revoked.
8) Don't type like a four year old, please, we're mature adults here.
9) Give the mods some PM search status on certain people. This may help take down trolls and the like, but is likely to be abused.
10) Add a flagging option (just a suggestion)
11) Do be pretentious or condescending in an argument. While this shouldn't get you banned, if it annoys enough members, it will (after a discussion under mods)
12) Do not clog up the forums or make irrelevant posts under the character limit.
13) Breaking the chat by hacking or illegal chat characters will get banpoints, or a ban altogether.
14) Do not make mean or annoying usernames, please. We are respectable people here!
15) Last but not least, be reasonable in your ratings... or suffer a small/large consequence.
I think you are though, since you are one of the members I totally respect, appreciate, etc. from afar, but most people (here) that think they are mature are just naive. Unless, you're just trying to say we're mature compared to four-years olds, then that's true.
The flag comment is actually a neat suggestion. :)
About the PM search, the mods can only look at PMs if someone reported it, like giving them permission; if someone abuses the report, it's them who'll be punished and etc., etc.
I don't want to double post so I'll just say it here too, I see many people biching about bans, I say:
SavageWolf = / = Pseudolonewolf
I would say more but I already got my main point across.
Try to add as little rules as possible, is my main opinion.
The ones that do need to be added for a conducive environment, however, are:
1. Don't be harshly critical against a member or show a lack of feeling for a member. Make sure to show empathy.
2. Don't spam or hack.
3. Make sure you can articulate your thoughts reliably.
Make sure moderators have a valid and good reason before banning or infracting someone. "Because he was disruptive" and nothing more is not a good reason (trolling, however, is a great reason) for a perma-ban!
Being disruptive is a perfectly good reason to give someone a warning/tip on how they can not do that. Banning them without warnings and/or discussion is generally not a good idea, unless it is blatantly obvious that they have no intention other than to troll.
This is not a very specific community site, from what I can gather, so that first rule should be only expected to reasonable amounts, depending on the specific forum categories for those things.
I believe to solve a lot of the problems with disruptive or unwanted members would be the ability to hide a person from appearing, if you so wish, so that people you have no interest in communicating with can be hidden or blocked or whatever. Because otherwise, their friends will get all angry and stuff, even though they did the wrong thing. I think hidden or blocked people should still be able to send PMs and stuff, but with the person marked as blocked/muted/hidden, so that you can decide whether you do or don't want to read it. If there is a member that didn't intend to do you any wrong, it would be bad if there was no way for them to apologize or whatever.
